If you’re driving to the Budapest Zoo, here’s what you need to know about parking!

[section]

Parking

One of the most important things to know is how to avoid wasting your day looking for parking. Around the Budapest Zoo, parking spots are usually hard to find. There is a small paid parking lot right next to the zoo, but it has very limited capacity — so it’s worth looking for alternative parking options in advance.

If you do find an empty spot on the nearby streets, make sure to check whether parking or stopping is not prohibited by local traffic regulations. It’s not worth taking the risk — cars are often quickly towed or clamped in this area.

Where to park near Budapest Zoo?

As local residents, we recommend using the underground parking garage in City Park (Városliget), located directly opposite the Budapest Zoo and just a 10-minute walk from the entrance. This three-level facility can accommodate around 800 cars, making it much more likely that you’ll find an available spot.

It’s called Múzeum Mélygarázs, so that’s the name you should search for in your navigation app. Use the buttons below to get directions via Google Maps or Waze.

Best parking option for Budapest Zoo visitors

The Múzeum Mélygarázs is open every day of the year, 24 hours a day. After 10:00 PM, the protective gate is lowered, but it will automatically open when you drive up to it, allowing free entry into the garage.

Extra Tip:

If you’re using GPS navigation from the Múzeum Mélygarázs, search for “Fővárosi Állat- és Növénykert” to find the Budapest Zoo.

During weekends or holidays, the zoo and surrounding area can get especially crowded — arriving early not only helps with parking but also lets you enjoy the zoo before the biggest crowds roll in.

Our Recommendation

As a local living in Budapest, I recommend the following:

  • Don’t try to find a parking spot on the street right next to the Budapest Zoo, because it’s almost always full. The area is packed with attractions, and both tourists and locals frequently visit, making parking nearly impossible.
  • Don’t try to park at the Parkoló ZOOna on the corner, as it’s usually full. The lot is too small and fills up quickly — sometimes it’s already at full capacity by noon.
  • Don’t park directly in front of the Zoo, as it violates local traffic regulations. Your car could be quickly clamped or even towed away.
  • Choose the Múzeum Mélygarázs in City Park – it’s about a 10-minute walk from the zoo, but you’ll almost certainly find a parking spot. This way, your amazing family day won’t start with stress or waiting around.
  • If you have a Budapest Card, we recommend parking your car at the free P+R parking lot at Mexikói út and travelling one stop on Metro Line 1.

The best option is the Múzeum Mélygarázs in City Park, about 10 minutes on foot.

In addition to the underground garage, you can also try street parking, or the Parkoló ZOOna located on the corner — though keep in mind that both options have very limited availability and tend to fill up quickly.

[row_inner style=”collapse” padding=”10px 10px 10px 10px”]

[col_inner span__sm=”12″ margin=”-35px 0px 0px 0px”]

It’s limited and often full. Most spots are regulated or risky due to parking restrictions.

[col_inner span__sm=”12″ margin=”-35px 0px 0px 0px”]

Free parking is extremely limited near the zoo and usually unavailable. Most nearby options, including street parking and Parkoló ZOOna, are paid — and often full.

[accordion-item title=”Is there parking directly in front of the zoo?” class=”title-faq-ac tab-faq-ac”]

[row_inner style=”collapse” padding=”10px 10px 10px 10px”]

[col_inner span__sm=”12″ margin=”-35px 0px 0px 0px”]

There are a few spots, but parking directly in front of the zoo is not allowed in many places and can result in fines, clamping, or towing.

[col_inner span__sm=”12″ margin=”-35px 0px 0px 0px”]

Parkoló ZOOna is very close to the zoo but has very limited capacity. It often fills up by noon, so it’s not the most reliable option.

It’s about a 10-minute walk through City Park (Városliget), making it one of the most convenient and reliable options for parking.

Yes, it’s a modern underground garage with surveillance, lighting, and 24/7 access.

Currently, most public parking options near the zoo operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations are not available.
